The ruling on the hair bun, which a woman styles at home for her husband, is permissible. As for raising the hair above the head, it is not originally prohibited, but some scholars forbade a specific manner of it, based on the hadith: "Their heads will be like the humps of swaying camels." Scholars have interpreted this hadith in several ways, including: enlarging the head with head coverings (khumur) or turbans, or hair extensions, or placing cloths and headbands that enlarge it, or that it is an allusion to enlarging the head with cloths such that the observer thinks it is hair, or that the intention is the elevation of braids and their gathering in the middle of the head to resemble the humps of swaying camels.
