Is the superiority of Abu Bakr over the Companions with Allah, or is it due to the deeds he performed?

Abu Bakr al-Siddiq was the first man to embrace Islam. He was named al-Siddiq (the Truthful) because of his unwavering belief in the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the incident of Al-Isra (the Night Journey). It is mentioned that he was his companion in the cave, and scholars have deemed those who deny his companionship as disbelievers, for it is a repudiation of the Quran. The Prophet commanded him to lead the people in prayer, which indicates his approval of Abu Bakr's succession. Muslims unanimously agreed upon his caliphate after a brief disagreement, which demonstrates his superiority over the rest of the Companions. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Umar: "Will you not leave my companion to me? Indeed, all people said: 'You have lied,' but Abu Bakr said: 'You have spoken the truth.'" In addition to this, he preceded everyone in all that pleases Allah and His Messenger.
