Is money and sons forbidden, given that they distance one from the remembrance of Allah, by analogy with the prohibition of music and chess for the same reason?

Musical instruments are unanimously prohibited. As for chess, there is a difference of opinion regarding its prohibition: the majority of scholars deem it prohibited, while the Shafi'is consider it disliked. The proof for the prohibition of musical instruments is the Hadith (definition) in Bukhari: "There will be among my Ummah people who will consider unlawful sexual intercourse, silk, wine, and musical instruments as lawful." The proof for the prohibition of chess is based on the narrations from the Companions and by analogy with dice. Among the wisdoms behind the prohibition is the corruption of the heart and its distancing from Allah.

Wealth and children are the adornments of this worldly life and a trial and test from Allah. So, whoever uses them to neglect an obligation or engage in something unlawful is sinful. The obligation is to receive Allah's commands with compliance and His prohibitions with avoidance, as He states: "It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into a clear error."
