What should the questioner do with her father who abandoned them for a long time, leaving them without care, and whose life is full of prohibitions, and whose speech is vulgar, and who only asks for money, and she fears his negative influence on her marital life and her child? And would she be sinful if she severed her relationship with him completely? And is it permissible for him to marry her mother after his long abandonment of her?

Righteousness towards parents is obligatory, even if a parent is disobedient, because Allah, the Almighty, says: "Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good," and He, the Almighty, also says: "But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, but accompany them in [this] world with kindness."

Therefore, it is not permissible to abandon or boycott a parent. If a parent causes harm (by neglecting rights or committing forbidden acts), one can reduce communication with them in a way that prevents harm (such as communicating by phone or meeting in a public place with the husband present).

And it is incumbent upon the father to provide for his children, for "It is enough sin for a person to neglect those whom he is responsible to feed." As for the wife, she can seek a divorce from her husband if he does not pray or causes her harm. She can also ransom herself from him through khul' (divestiture) if he does not agree to a divorce.
