Who are those referred to by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in the Hadith: "Whoever argues about the Qur'an without knowledge, let him take his seat in Hellfire"; are they Muslims with little knowledge or the People of the Book?

The hadith was not narrated with the wording mentioned, but it was narrated with the wording: "Whoever speaks concerning the Qur’an without knowledge, let him take his seat in Hellfire." Its meaning is that whoever speaks about the Qur’an based on his own opinion has undertaken something about which he has no knowledge, and has erred even if he happened to be correct in meaning. This warning is general for anyone who interprets the Qur’an without knowledge of the principles of tafsir (Qur’anic exegesis), the rules of the Arabic language, and the objectives of Islamic law. Disputation and argumentation are blameworthy and forbidden by Islamic law, especially concerning the Qur’an or religion. It has been narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: "I guarantee a house in the outskirts of Paradise for whoever abandons argumentation, even if he is in the right."
