Is one who views the images offensive to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, sinful?

These images are among the greatest abominations, and they must be changed by hand or by tongue. If one is unable, then by heart. If one is unable to change them and it is possible to leave the place, then he must do so, according to the Almighty's saying: (And when you see those who engage in [offensive] discourse concerning Our verses, then turn away from them until they enter into another discourse.) As for intentionally viewing them, it is forbidden, except for a legitimate interest, such as refuting their proponents and exposing their falsehood. In such cases, viewing the abomination becomes an act of piety that saves them from blame. As for one who views them out of curiosity, he remains subject to the original prohibition, for accustoming oneself to looking at them lessens their reprehensibility in the heart.
