Why are there no images of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the world?

The Sharia prohibited imagery as a preventative measure against polytheism (shirk); therefore, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not have an image. Narrations have come down prohibiting imagery and cursing its doer, and the warning is severe for those who do so, because the Sharia cautioned against extremism (ghuluw) that leads to shirk. The implication of bearing witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah is believing in him and in what he brought. Believers do not need his image to follow him; the authentic descriptions of him suffice and render any image unnecessary. His description, peace and blessings be upon him, is as follows: he was the most handsome of people in countenance, broad between the shoulders, neither tall nor short, round-faced, his face tinged with redness, intensely black-eyed, long-lashed, the Seal of the Prophets, the most generous of people in giving, the most expansive of them in heart, the most truthful of them in speech, the softest of them in temperament, the most noble of them in companionship. Part of loving him is seeing him in a dream in his true form, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever sees me in a dream will see me while awake, and Satan cannot impersonate me."
