What is the ruling on speaking with a cousin (son of maternal aunt) and friends after having sworn by the Book of Allah not to do so?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible for a girl to establish acquaintanceships or friendships with a man who is a stranger to her. Whoever swore by the Book of Allah not to speak to someone and then spoke to him, has broken her oath and must offer expiation for an oath. As for one who was compelled to swear an oath, her oath is not binding, nor is she considered to have broken it, according to the majority of scholars, provided that the compulsion was irresistible, such as being threatened with beating or similar.
