What is a realistic view of the disabled and the elderly in Islamic countries?

In Islam, the elderly and infirm have a right to obedience and benevolence from their children and relatives. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "He is not of us who does not respect our elders and show mercy to our young."

Among the general rights of a Muslim upon his fellow Muslim are: greeting him with peace, answering his invitation, supplicating for a sneezer, visiting the sick, following a funeral, fulfilling his oath, advising him, safeguarding his honor in his absence, loving good for him and disliking evil for him, aiding the righteous, seeking forgiveness for the sinner, refraining from causing harm, humility, refraining from backbiting, overlooking shortcomings, forgiving mistakes, not entering homes without permission, having good character, respecting scholars, showing mercy to children, honoring the elderly, and being gentle and kind towards all creation.

The elderly and infirm must receive increased care due to their intense need.
