What is the ruling on presenting false medical excuses for absence from work or study, and is it permissible to resort to them in the event of absence due to sleep?

A Muslim is commanded to uphold trust and be mindful of God. Negligence at work, absence from it, or carelessness in it, is considered a forbidden betrayal, especially if it is coupled with lying and fabricating excuses, such as in the case of an employee who presents fabricated medical excuses while being untruthful, or a teacher who is absent without a legitimate excuse.

The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has issued a fatwa prohibiting such actions, stating the necessity of repentance and giving in charity whatever salary was taken unjustly.

Ibn Baz emphasized the obligation for an employee to perform their duty with honesty and sincerity, and not to imitate the hypocrites who betray trusts.

Furthermore, it is not permissible for doctors to assist negligent employees by writing untrue medical excuses, as this is considered falsehood and false testimony, and leads to consuming wealth unlawfully. This also applies to students.
