How can the Fire contain Allah's Foot or Allah's Hand, glory be to Him, when He is not encompassed by time or place, despite the Hadith that mention Allah placing His Hand in the Fire to seize a handful of disobedient ones, and others that mention Him placing His Foot therein?
The hadiths that speak of Allah's intercession and the expulsion of certain peoples from Hellfire, and of Hell and Paradise being held back, and of Hell being filled by placing the Foot upon it, are remembered. Ahl al- wal-Jama'ah affirm for Allah Almighty the attributes of Hand, Foot, and Leg in a manner befitting His Majesty, without resemblance to created beings, as stated in His saying: "There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing." Scholars, such as Imam al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Khuzaymah, and Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, are of the view that these attributes are narrated and believed in without takyeef (modality) or ta'weel (allegorical interpretation), and that the misconception of Hell encompassing one of Allah's attributes due to the placing of the Foot or the Hand is unfounded; for His attributes and actions are not like the attributes and actions of His creation, and nothing distracts Allah from anything.
