Is a husband's striking and verbal abuse considered nushuz, or is it merely a sin that does not fall under the definition of nushuz?

The Shafi'i jurists stated that a wife's insulting or hitting her husband is not considered nushuz (rebellion), but she incurs sin and deserves discipline. As for the Hanbalis, they included a wife's ill-manners among the signs of nushuz. If these signs appear, her husband should admonish her. If she persists in disobedience and refuses to share the bed without a valid excuse, or leaves the house without his permission, he should abandon her in bed. Meanwhile, the Hanafis and Malikis mentioned that nushuz occurs when a wife refuses to share the bed or leaves the house without the husband's permission, and they did not address insulting or hitting the husband. The statement that this act is not nushuz does not mean it is permissible; rather, it is forbidden, and the wife incurs sin for it and should be disciplined. The intent behind not considering it nushuz might be to not apply the rulings of nushuz to it, such as the forfeiture of the wife's rights.
