Is it permissible to pay the expiation for an oath (kaffarat al-yameen) to the mosque fund instead of feeding ten needy people due to their unavailability?

Placing expiation (kaffarah) funds in a mosque’s donation box is not permissible unless that box is specifically designated for collecting expiations and is overseen by trustworthy individuals. The more cautious approach is to give it directly to the poor or to appoint a trustworthy representative.

The expiation for breaking an oath is to feed ten poor persons, or clothe them, or free a slave. Whoever cannot find [the means] – then a fast of three days. It is sufficient to feed a poor person one and a half kilograms of food, or to clothe them with a garment suitable for prayer. It is permissible to appoint charitable organizations to distribute it.

According to the majority of jurists, it is not permissible to pay expiation in monetary form, except in cases of necessity and for the benefit of the poor, as stated by Abu Hanifa and Ibn Taymiyyah.
