Is it correct to say: "Allah Almighty is close in His essence"?
Allah is close to His creation through His attributes, not through His essence. Thus, His closeness is one of knowledge, encompassing, and power, not one of mingling or blending. It can also be a closeness of love, contentment, and intimacy, like the closeness of a servant to his Lord while prostrating. And His saying, the Most High: (And We are closer to him than his jugular vein) is interpreted as His closeness through His knowledge, or through His angels. The statement that Allah is close in His essence or with everyone in His essence is among the sayings of the Jahmiyyah, upon which the proponents of ittihad (union) and hulul (indwelling) built their ideas.
