The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade walking in one sandal. This is for several reasons mentioned by scholars, including: that sandals were prescribed to protect the foot, so if one of them is worn alone, the walker would need to be cautious, and perhaps the person doing so might be considered to have a defective mind. It was also said: because it is the walk of Satan. And it was said: because it deviates from moderation. And it was said: due to the dislike of wearing clothes of fame. This includes all paired garments such as socks, stockings, and gloves, so it is necessary to wear the pair together or remove them together. If wearing a single sock is a phenomenon among students, in imitation of disbelievers or transgressors, then this should be addressed by explaining the deficiency in intellect and religion in it, and by encouraging them to emulate the righteous, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever imitates a people is one of them."
