What is the origin of the supplication: "We have come upon you with 'There is no god but Allah,' and we have bridled your mouths with 'There is no might nor power except with Allah,' and we have placed your evil in your own throats. Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs," and what is the ruling on one who supplicates with it believing that it resolves difficult matters when recited 10 times?

It is permissible to supplicate for the good of this world and the Hereafter with what has been ورد in the Sharia and with what has not, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Then let him choose of the supplication what he likes most, and supplicate." As for restricting the supplication to ten times or otherwise, it lacks a legal proof, for restriction in such matters is based on divine revelation (tawqif). The supplication mentioned in the Sunnah is: "O Allah, there is no ease except that which You make easy, and You make the difficult easy if You wish."
