A woman is not permitted to use birth control pills unless there is a need for it, with her husband's permission, and after consulting a trustworthy doctor. Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on bleeding caused by these pills. Some hold that it is menstruation as long as it does not exceed fifteen days. Others believe it is menstruation if its characteristics are like those of normal menstrual blood; otherwise, it is bleeding. Still others maintain that the woman should ask a doctor: if the doctor says it is menstruation, then it is menstruation; but if the doctor says they are secretions, then it is not menstruation.
