Are the Deobandis from Ahl al-Sunnah? Are they within the pale of Islam?

The Deobandis are a group among the Muslim denominations, named after the Darul Uloom Deoband in India. They follow the Maturidi school in belief (Aqidah) and the Hanafi school in jurisprudence (Fiqh). They have adopted Sufi paths in their spiritual conduct. Their ideas aim to preserve Islamic teachings, spread Islam, combat destructive ideologies and English culture, propagate the Arabic language, and reconcile intellect and emotion.

The Maturidiyyah is a theological sect attributed to Abu Mansur al-Maturidi. They employ rational proofs and evidence to establish religious truths. They divided the principles of religion into "Ilahiyyat" (matters of intellect) and "Shar'iyyat" (matters of revelation). This contradicts the methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah (the People of the Sunnah and the Community), who rely on the Quran, Sunnah, and the consensus of the Companions as sources of reception.

Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah believe that the Maturidiyyah is among the groups whose statements contain both truth and falsehood, and are in contradiction to the Sunnah. They vary in their proximity to or distance from the truth. The Muslim's duty towards the Maturidiyyah and those who follow their path is: to warn against those who advocate for their innovations (bid'ah), and to kindly advise those who are not advocates, explaining the error of their belief and guiding them to the truth.
