Are all the misgivings that come to us and cross our minds from Satan?
Among obsessive thoughts, some originate from the self, and some from Satan. Al-Ghazali called a praiseworthy thought "inspiration" (ilham) and a blameworthy thought "obsessive whisper" (waswas). He called the source of the thought that calls to good an "angel" (malak), and the source of the thought that calls to evil a "devil" (shaytan). Some commentators have mentioned that Al-Waswas is one of the names of Satan.
