The answer

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, taught us to perform Istikhara (prayer for guidance) in all matters. So, if one intends to do something (is resolved and desires it), let him pray two rak'ahs, then supplicate with the authentic supplication which includes entrusting the matter to Allah Almighty and asking for facilitation of good and averting of evil. As for what one plans for the future and its time has not yet come, it appears that the servant should perform Istikhara for it when its time arrives.
