The prevalent custom among people, Muslims and disbelievers alike, of uttering the word of majesty "Allah" upon seeing something beautiful carries two meanings: either to attribute all beauty to Allah, or for the beauty to remind them of Him, glory be to Him. The doer, whether good or bad, is judged by the meaning intended by the utterance and by what is settled in the heart. For instance, the women's saying "Allah forbid!" to Joseph was not a remembrance of Allah, but rather an infatuation with his beauty. This custom does not constitute disbelief because it is far from mockery, and often it is a spontaneous reaction. It is judged as commendable or reprehensible depending on the situation and the intention of the utterer.
