Is it permissible to shear the wool of the sacrificial animal three months before Eid al-Adha for the purpose of fattening it, and does that affect the validity of the sacrifice?

It is permissible to shear the wool of the sacrificial animal if it entails a benefit or if its remaining would cause harm, such as if shearing it is more beneficial for it, or protects it from heat and cold. Ibn Qudamah mentioned that shearing is permissible if it is more beneficial for the animal, such as if it is done in springtime to lighten it and increase its fatness. Similarly, the Shafi'is believe that shearing the wool is permissible if leaving it would harm the animal. As for the Malikis, they dislike shearing the wool if the time of slaughter is near and the sacrificer did not intend to shear it when purchasing it, unless new wool grows to replace it. If the wool is sheared, it must be given as charity to the poor, and shearing the wool of the sacrificial animal does not prevent its validity.
