What is the religious ruling on a man weighing the Eid sacrifice after slaughtering and skinning it?

If the animal sacrificed (udhiyah) is weighed after slaughtering and skinning for the purpose of dividing it among participants, or to determine the amount of its meat for portioning into thirds, then there is no harm in that. However, purchasing the sacrificial animal by weight after it has been slaughtered and skinned is not permissible. This is because either it was bought before slaughter at an unknown price, which invalidates the contract, or it was not owned by the person offering the sacrifice at the time of slaughter, in which case it does not count as a valid sacrifice. The permissible way to sell a sacrificial animal by weight is to weigh it while it is alive and then purchase it.
