Is it permissible to use the expiation for delaying fasts to sponsor an orphan, or to pay it to the same people in installments, or to support the Mujahideen?

The expiation for delaying (payment) is a right of the poor and the needy, whether they are orphans or not. It is preferable to give it directly to the poor person or to their guardian. There is no harm in appointing someone to deliver it, provided they are informed that it is an expiation of feeding. The required amount for feeding is one mudd of rice or similar (approximately 750 grams). The majority of jurists hold that giving the monetary value is not sufficient, while Abu Hanifa permits giving the monetary value absolutely. Sheikh al-Islam preferred the permissibility of giving the monetary value when there is a need.
