Is it permissible to work with oppressors under duress, fearing imprisonment, with the intention of reforming the institution?

If the work is permissible in itself, and does not involve assisting in injustice or evil, then performing it is permissible, and its doer will be rewarded if he intends thereby to reform the workplace. However, if the work is forbidden in itself, or involves assisting in injustice or evil, then it is not permissible. In the event of pressure or coercion to perform forbidden work, one should consider whether the coercion reaches the level of duress recognized by Islamic law, which permits what is due to Allah Almighty, but duress is not recognized in matters concerning the rights of creatures.
