What is the Shar'i ruling on dealing with usurious bank interest resulting from late debt payment, and must it be paid?
It is not permissible to obtain credit cards from usurious banks that stipulate interest upon late payment, even if the person intends not to be late, because doing so constitutes an acknowledgment of usury. Whoever has done so must repent to Allah and invalidate the forbidden contract by returning the card. If he cannot avoid paying the demanded interest, he must pay it while seeking forgiveness.
