Is a sick person's supplication answered until they recover?

The hadiths about the prayer of the sick being answered are weak in their chains of transmission. However, visiting the sick is encouraged. It has been authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that: "Allah Almighty will say on the Day of Resurrection: 'O son of Adam, I fell ill, and you did not visit Me.' He will say: 'O Lord, how could I visit You when You are the Lord of the worlds?' He will say: 'Did you not know that My servant [so-and-so] fell ill, and you did not visit him? Did you not know that if you had visited him, you would have found Me with him?'" This indicates the patient's closeness to Allah Almighty and that their supplication is likely to be answered. For the sick are among the distressed whose prayers are answered.
