The answer

The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to cry a lot out of fear of Allah, an example of which is his crying upon hearing the recitation of Surat An-Nisa.

The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) also cried a lot. Among them were Abu Bakr and Umar, who cried upon hearing of the cessation of revelation, and the Companions who cried upon hearing the Prophet's sermon (peace be upon him): "If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much."

Among them was Ibn Abbas, whose tear stains on his face were like sandal straps, and Abu Bakr, who cried upon hearing the people of Yemen recite the Quran, and Umar, who used to cry intensely out of fear of Allah and would cry upon reciting, "I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah." And Ibn Umar, whose eyes teared up upon reciting the verse, "Whether you disclose what is in your yourselves or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it." And Khabbab, who cried out of fear of this world, and Abdullah ibn Amr, who cried out of fear of Allah.
