Does a divorce occur if a man says to his wife: "If I continue with you, it means I do not believe in Allah"?

If a man says to his wife: "If I continue with you, it means I do not believe in Allah," then this statement is reprehensible. However, it does not constitute apostasy (kufr) or divorce (talaq). Rather, it necessitates an expiation for breaking an oath (kaffarat yamin). This applies if he did not intend apostasy itself, but rather sought to strongly deter himself or to express repulsion. However, if he did intend apostasy, then he has indeed apostatized. The expiation for an oath is feeding ten poor persons or clothing them, or fasting for three days for whoever cannot afford that. As for divorcing a menstruating woman, the majority of scholars deem it valid, but some scholars, like Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, do not. It is advised to control one's tongue and not to use divorce except when intending to end the marital relationship.
