This Hadith serves as guidance and a recommendation, not a strict obligation. Al-Khattabi and Ibn Raslan emphasize that the Hadith warns against associating with or eating with the impious, because such interactions can foster familiarity and affection, and one should not take an impious person as a companion. This does not contradict feeding a disbeliever or someone in dire need, as the captive mentioned in the Quran was a disbeliever and not pious.
