What is the ruling concerning Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan and Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf Al-Thaqafi for their killing of Abdullah ibn Al-Zubayr, what is the position of Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jama'ah regarding them, and what is the position of Abdullah ibn Al-Zubayr?

It is the way of the Sunnis not to judge specific Muslims as being destined for Paradise or Hell. Rather, they hope for the virtuous and fear for the sinner. They show loyalty to a person commensurate with their obedience and abhorrence commensurate with their sinfulness. They do not busy themselves with reviling oppressors or cursing them.

Based on this, whoever testifies that any ruler or other person is in Hell due to their oppression has fallen into innovation and misguidance. For it is possible that Allah may grant them repentance, or forgive them, or pardon them.

Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, before his caliphate, was among the devout and jurists. Then, oppression emanated from him. It suffices to say that Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf Al-Thaqafi was one of Abd al-Malik's sins. However, the history of the Umayyads has been subjected to distortion by some people of innovation.
