What should one do when moving to a new house?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

There is no prescriptive basis, upon moving to a new residence, for reciting the Adhan in its corners or for reading specific surahs, due to lack of evidence. Nevertheless, there is no harm in reciting the Adhan or reading the Quran, especially Surat Al-Baqarah, to expel devils, nor is it necessary to restrict this to the time of moving in. As for making a feast upon moving, there is no objection to it if it is done out of gratitude to Allah for the blessing of the home and for the gathering of relatives and friends, and not out of a belief that it brings blessings or repels evil. The home should be a place of goodness, worship, and gratitude to Allah.
