Is the distance between Mecca and Jeddah considered a travel distance that necessitates the rulings of a traveler, especially for female students who reside in Jeddah and commute daily to Mecca by bus?

It has been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he forbade a woman from traveling without a mahram. There is a difference of opinion regarding the distance that is prohibited. Some narrations mention three days, others a day and a night, and a third set of narrations does not specify a limit. It is mentioned that any journey considered "travel" is forbidden for a woman without her husband or a mahram.
