What is the wisdom behind ordaining the five prayers at their specified times?

The fundamental principle regarding acts of worship is that they are prescriptive (tawqifiyyah). While the wisdom behind some of them may become apparent—some are comprehensible to the intellect, such as zakat, fasting, and prayer—others, like the stoning of the jamarat and the sa'y (walking between Safa and Marwah), are not understood by the intellect. Rather, their purpose is the perfection of absolute subservience and servitude to God, the detachment of the intellect from its own discretion, and the diversion of the soul from its comfort zone. For this reason, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said specifically about Hajj: "Here I am, performing a true Hajj, out of devotion and servitude." In these acts, obedience is rendered solely to the mere command, and this is the most profound type of worship in purifying souls and diverting them from the dictates of human nature.
