There is no شرع (legal) impediment to taking pictures of inanimate objects, such as the Grand Mosque ( al-Makki); this is a matter of consensus among scholars. As for photographic images of animate beings, scholars have differed regarding their ruling, with some permitting and others prohibiting them.
