What is the ruling on a person in a state of ihram carrying a camera and taking pictures with it inside the Grand Mosque in Mecca?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Scholars differed concerning the ruling on photographic imaging. Some prohibited it, considering it analogous to the forbidden imaging, while others permitted it on the basis that it is not the imaging mentioned in the hadiths. Accordingly, if we permit it, then it is permissible for the pilgrim in ihram and others to carry a camera and take permissible pictures with it inside and outside the Haram. If we prohibit it, then it is not permissible. It is more befitting for a Muslim to abandon pictures that are not necessitated by necessity, in order to avoid disagreement.
