Is it permissible to listen to the Qur’an in a place where alcoholic beverages are sold?

It is not permissible for a Muslim to work in places where alcohol is sold. He must seek permissible employment. Likewise, it is not permissible to play or recite the Quran in these places due to its incompatibility with the respect and veneration of the Quran. The Ummah has unanimously agreed on the obligation to venerate, sanctify, and protect the Quran. As for merely listening to the Quran without being responsible for playing it in such a place, there is no harm in that.
