Maintaining kinship ties is not a reward, but rather an obligatory right. "The one who maintains kinship ties is not the one who reciprocates, but the one who maintains kinship ties is he who, when his relatives sever ties with him, he connects with them." If you strive to connect with your relatives, there is no sin upon you, and the sin of severance remains upon those among them who insist on it.
