The Qur'anic verses and Hadiths that enjoin unity and community are numerous. Among them is Allah's saying: ﴿And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided.﴾ [Quran 3:103], and His saying: ﴿And do not be like those who became divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And for them is a great punishment.﴾ [Quran 3:105], and His saying: ﴿Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects – you are not [associated] with them in anything.﴾ [Quran 6:159], and His saying: ﴿And do not be of those who associate others with Allah those who divided their religion and became sects, each faction rejoicing in what it has.﴾ [Quran 30:31-32].

Among the Hadiths is the Prophet's saying (peace be upon him): "The similitude of the believers in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion is like that of a single body; if one of its limbs aches, the whole body responds to it with sleeplessness and fever." And his saying: "A believer to another believer is like a structure, parts of which support one another." And his saying: "Indeed, what destroyed those before you was their questioning and their differing with their prophets."
