Is it permissible for a wife to take money from her husband's business, which she helped develop, without his knowledge, especially after he refused to pay her a wage and threatened to reduce her maintenance if she demanded payment, while he spends generously on himself?
If the wife works with her husband in trade without an agreement on wages, she is not entitled to demand wages for the past except with the husband's consent. She may, however, request future wages or refuse to work.
If the husband reduces non-essential expenses but maintains the obligatory maintenance, there is no blame upon him, and it is not permissible for the wife to take money without his knowledge. However, if he reduces the obligatory maintenance, it is permissible for her to take what suffices her in a reasonable manner without his knowledge.
If the husband compels his wife to work with him without pay, she may take a customary wage (اجر المثل) without his knowledge. But if the work is with her consent, she is only entitled to the agreed-upon wage or to cease working.
