What are the comprehensive books on prophetic hadith that you recommend?

The most revered and authentic books of Hadith, by the consensus of the Ummah, are Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. Therefore, one should begin with them, then focus on the additions found in the four Sunan collections: at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i, Abu Dawud, and Ibn Majah.

If the questioner is not proficient in distinguishing between authentic and weak Hadith, it is preferable for them to rely on books that have already undertaken this task, or that have been authenticated by Hadith scholars. These include: Al-Jami' al-Saghir wa Ziyadatuh by al-Suyuti, Muntaqa al-Akhbar by Majd Ibn Taymiyyah, Riyad al-Salihin by Imam al-Nawawi, Bulugh al-Maram by Ibn Hajar, and Umdat al-Ahkam by Al-Hafiz al-Maqdisi.
