What is the ruling regarding a wife's insistence on wearing gloves and a head-covering abaya, knowing that the husband wants her to wear a modest abaya, but not a head-covering one and without gloves?

The Sharia did not specify a particular type of clothing for women. Rather, scholars mentioned conditions for a woman's attire in front of non-mahram men. If these conditions are met, then wearing what the husband desires is permissible. However, the wife is not obligated to obey him in this matter; rather, she is obligated to obey him regarding beautifying herself for him inside the home. If the husband orders her to wear something that does not meet the conditions of hijab, then it is not permissible to obey him. The relationship between spouses should be based on mercy and understanding. The more modest and less alluring a woman's clothing is outside her home, the better, "because the Sunnah has been narrated that a woman should go out in her plainest clothes, which are the lowest and thickest."
