The answer

Musical instruments and music are considered unlawful by the majority of scholars, and many of them have reported a consensus on their prohibition. It has been narrated from Imam Abu al-Abbas al-Qurtubi that there is no disagreement regarding the prohibition of listening to flutes (mazamir), string instruments (awtar), and drums (kubah), and no one from the early Muslims (Salaf) or later generations (Khalaf) has been known to permit it. The view that it is permissible contradicts authentic hadiths. Some books have clarified the authenticity of the hadiths prohibiting singing and and musical instruments. The justifications mentioned for listening to them do not alter their legal ruling. A Muslim should occupy their time with what benefits them, not with what harms them.
