The question

Is it permissible for the reciter who recites according to the recitation of Hamzah to perform wasl (connection) and naql (transference) in (جنات ألفافا - Gardens of Alfafah) and to pause and glottalize (hamz) in (تجارة أو - a trade or), or is only that permissible, especially since the Mushaf indicates stopping and glottalizing with colored letters?

The answer

Hamza is permitted to perform both naql (transfer) and tark al-naql (non-transfer) when pausing on the two aforementioned words. He is also permitted to perform sakt (a brief pause without taking a breath) before the hamza according to the recitation of Khalaf, as mentioned by Al-Shatibi. Abu Shama, in his commentary on Al-Shatibiyyah, elaborated on the permissibility of naql and sakt for Hamza when pausing on words whose hamza has been transferred, clarifying that Khalaf narrates from Hamza the sakt between two words. Thus, Khalaf has two recitational modes: the first is to perform sakt at every silent letter and in the words shay’ (thing) and shay’an (a thing); the second restricts sakt to the definite article lam and the words shay’ and shay’an. As for Khallad, he has two recitational modes: the first is to perform sakt only on the definite article lam and the words shay’ and shay’an; the other has no sakt at all.
