Are the meanings that came to my mind for the word "عِيَال" (children/dependents) correct, and does my asking my sister and searching the dictionary for the meaning of the word affect my faith, or am I not held accountable for the thoughts and whispers that occur to my mind?

We ask Allah to grant you a swift recovery from obsessive thoughts, and to bestow upon you success and steadfastness. A man's dependents are those whom he supports, and likewise, the servants of Allah are His dependents. A Muslim is not held accountable for thoughts or obsessive whispers that cross their mind, as long as they do not speak them or act upon them. This is based on the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) saying: "Indeed, Allah has pardoned my nation for what they whisper to themselves, as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it." Your question to your sister and your search for the meaning of the word do not affect your faith, for a Muslim is allowed to seek clarification for what they do not understand. Stay away from doubts concerning purification. If you are certain that your purification has been nullified, then act upon it; otherwise, do not pay attention to doubts, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Not until he hears a sound or finds a smell."
