Will a person be held accountable for self-talk and doubts if he does not repel them?
A Muslim is not held accountable for inner thoughts, passing notions, doubts, or delusions, so long as he does not resolve to act upon them, believe in them, or speak them. This is based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Indeed, Allah has forgiven my Ummah for whatever they whisper to themselves, as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it." It is obligatory to turn away from thinking about impermissible notions and doubts, and to beware of indulging in them.
