Will a person be held accountable for merely thinking or narrating stories to themselves without wishing for their occurrence?

Abstract thoughts about forbidden matters or self--whisperings are not held against a person, as stated in the Hadith: "Indeed, Allah has forgiven my Ummah for whatever they whisper to themselves, as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it." However, a Muslim should not preoccupy their mind with such matters, as they may lead to committing forbidden acts, or at the very least, waste their time and effort, for stray thoughts are the devil's entry point into the heart.
