The answer

Among insurance companies, some are cooperative, Takaful (Islamic), while the majority are commercial and forbidden. If the company one wishes to work for is of the forbidden type, then it is not permissible to work there, as it involves cooperation in sin and falsehood, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression." However, if you are compelled to do so to earn a living for yourself and your dependents, and you find no other work, then it is permissible for you to the extent of your necessity. Whenever you find permissible work, it becomes obligatory for you to leave the forbidden work and move to the permissible one. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, the Holy Spirit breathed into my soul that no soul will die until it has completed its sustenance and its lifespan. So, fear Allah and be good in seeking provision."
