Is a person rewarded for a calamity if he endures it patiently after having initially despaired of it?

Patience in the face of calamity is rewarded, and the most complete and greatest reward is for that which occurs at the first shock, because that is true patience. And whenever patience occurs thereafter, its possessor is rewarded according to his patience.
