Did Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah abandon the Sunnah of marriage due to an excuse?

Some scholars, such as Al-Nawawi and Ibn Taymiyyah, not marrying does not mean they abstained from it out of asceticism; rather, they encouraged it. It is presumed that their celibacy was due to an excuse or for a greater benefit. Ibn Taymiyyah advised a young man suffering from unlawful desire to marry, citing the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) hadith (definition): "If one of you sees the beauty of a woman, let him go to his wife, for she has the same as what she has," explaining that marriage diminishes lust and weakens infatuation.
